A little more of our day to day lives
We did start a little homeschooling two weeks ago. We were not sure before we came if the boys would be going to the private school or not, so I did not bring all the schoolbooks we normally would use. I had to get a little creative. The first thing I did was have the older two write down a Fighter Verse. They are expected to learn a memory verse every week. My 9-year old dictated the verse to me, then I had him add the punctuation. I asked him to circle all the nouns in the verse. Then he practiced handwriting. He had written a story for his little brother, and I chose the words he misspelled as his first spelling list. Throughout the week we looked at different sentences to find nouns and tried different activities to practice handwriting and learn spelling words. The nine year old does have a math book that he is working on and a science text. I also had him look up information on Romania, draw the flag, label the map with big cities, and this week he learned about Hungary.
The 12-year-old has his math text and a grammar book. I looked on the Internet for spelling lists for everyone, so he is working on that, as well. He asked me one day about the Hungarian language, so I assigned him a report on that very thing. He also read Little Women and will be reporting on that, too.
The math book for the 15-year old has not arrived yet, but he is working on spelling, he is reading Great Expectations, and has turned in a report on Romanian history. I anticipate they will continue this work even if/when they attend the private school.
My sweet, almost three-year-old has asked for lessons, too. We are doing a letter a week and a Foundation Verse, plus a few activity books.
Very impressed with the creativity!! ☺ I hope the private school classes are going well, seeing that they are taught in a different languge! What an incredible experience to be submerged in!
