Almost three weeks in and our daily lives seem to be coming into focus. We are blessed to live in a nice little neighborhood with a couple of playgrounds a block away. We try and make sure that everyone gets some outside time while the weather is beautiful. The little ones especially love this time together outside.
Our daily life also involves strategic trips to the grocery store every two days given some facts of our surroundings: 1) we have three older boys who eat all day long and 2) we have a refrigerator that is 1/3 the size of our "normal" ones back in the states (plus a 1/2-size pantry). And since we do not have a car yet, we are getting good exercise walking. Don't worry, when we buy too much and/or are too tired to carry everything back, there are always taxis ready to ferry us home for around $2.50. We hope to lease a minivan soon (looking for a VW 8+1, either one of these two is fine :)
Last weekend we walked back downtown to stroll the promenade and feeling a little homesick, went to an "American" restaurant (at the boys insistence). I'm not sure I will ever eat "American" food like this again...well, at least the french fries were ok. But the place was interesting as the boys got to eat inside a car and even take a picture with a cow.
We are excited as they are rebuilding the town square and it should be very nice when completed. It seems the city is pushing to finish this as quickly as possible as I think they are working seven days a week.
Other highlights this week include meeting with the principal of a local k-12 private school that is affiliated with the church we attend. The principal was very supportive and thought the three older boys would benefit from the experience to enroll in the school at least part-time. It looks like the boys will attend from 8-11am where Daniel and Elijah will take mainly science and math classes (with some music and art classes thrown in) while Micah will join a 3rd grade class. The teaching is all in Romanian so this should be a great experience!
We love and miss you guys. You are are heroes. I love the shopping and cooking stories. We are enjoying all the blog posts and pictures; keep them coming! Josh wishes Elijah could come to his birthday party Saturday. Caleb says he would like to learn a language the way your boys are. David hopes Micah makes new friends and can't wait for him to come back to Austin.

DeleteYes, you are missed! Please email us with your mailing address. I've got some kids who would love to brighten your boys day with some mail.
ReplyDeleteAlso, wondering how that restaurant messed up hamburgers. =)
I will send the address, I'm not sure they messed up the hamburger, I think the wings and blue cheese were questionable.
